Located in Cherokee County, Alabama, this historic iron furnace is one of the best-preserved examples of a charcoal iron furnace in the state. Built in the mid-19th century, the furnace played an important role in Alabama’s early industrial development by producing pig iron used for tools, machinery, and other goods. During the Civil War, it contributed to the Confederacy’s iron supply, making it a target for Union forces.
Constructed of locally quarried stone and powered by water and charcoal, Cornwall Furnace reflects the technology and labor systems of its era. Today, the site stands as a reminder of Alabama’s early iron industry and offers visitors a glimpse into the region’s industrial past.

In addition to this main attraction, the park features walking trails, views of Weiss Lake, picnic tables, and a covered pavilion.
